The amount of Classroom based training is 280 hours and breaks down as follows:

  • Face to face classes: 4 days a week (7 hours a day) for 10 weeks
  • Industry work placement: = 120 hours

Work placement – Monday to Friday (times may vary depending on the facility, but usually from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM)

  • 13 weeks of face-to-face classroom followed by a self-study period with our dedicated tutor support
  • Plus 120 hours of work placement (to be completed over a minimum of 3 weeks) We organise all this for you!

This aged care course will be delivered:

  • Face-to-face classroom based

Which comprises of both theory and practical components. It also involves on-the-job practical training (work placement). You are also required to complete self-study and research/project work.

You need to complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement in an approved facility.
My Flex Training has agreements in place with various facilities around Perth Metro to facilitate 5-6 weeks of full time work placement for every student. Students wishing to extend their work placement over a longer duration attending part time may do so by facility approval and arrangement.

Note: We are unable to guarantee that work placement will take place immediately after the Face-to-Face delivery. This can cause a break in between the Face-to-Face delivery and work placement, which may affect the end date of the qualification.

Changes to work placement beyond the control of My Flex Training are managed as per government and health guidelines.

If you have previously completed training or has course related skills and experience, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning, RPL. RPL is charged at $150 per unit of competency.

Minimum Age

You must be 18 years of age or above at course commencement

Entry Requirements

No minimum education standard is set as a prerequisite to entry to this course. However, you should be aware that as the sector works closely with bodily functions, and medical and anatomy terms are used and must be understood, therefore, a general command of spoken and written English, ability to communicate with colleagues and clients as well as the ability to read and write a simple report is required. This course requires the satisfactory completion of oral and written tasks.

All students are required to complete a literacy assessment prior to entry.

Additionally, this qualification requires physical movement of people, as such participants should be physically fit.

Competency Based Training is based on the learner being able to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. Competency standards are industry-determined specifications of performance that set out the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a specific industry or profession. To be assessed competent, you need to demonstrate the ability to perform tasks and duties to the standard expected for employment. Competency standards are an endorsed component of a training package.

My Flex Training uses a range of assessment methods to assess your competency. The methods used will depend on the unit and can include:

  • Written questions
  • Verbal questions
  • Case studies / Scenarios
  • Roleplays / Simulations / Demonstrations
  • Work placement assessment book/ 3rd party report
  • Written report/ Presentation/ Project

The application process is as follows:

  1. Contact our team to book in for a LLN (Language, literacy and numeracy) Assessment.
  2. Provide 100 points of ID
  3. Payment of application fee
  4. Confirmation of Enrolment

Students are recommended to purchase a My Flex Training Polo Shirt, to wear whilst on work placement. Purchase of this item is not compulsory, but wearing it enables the student to represent the college on work placement and be easily identifiable. If you do not wish to wear a My Flex Training Polo Shirt, please wear a suitable dark polo. 

Student Polo’s are not required to be worn during classes at our centre. 

The cost of the Polo Shirt is $15 (incl GST). Students will be invoiced separately from their enrolment invoice and will pay for this item upfront. 

NOTE: Whilst the qualification is delivered over a 10 week face-to-face training period + 120 of work placement, students may take up to 12 months to complete the qualification.
